Christmas in Broken Bow
We typically stay home for Christmas but this year I knew I wanted to try something different. When the opportunity came up for us to stay at the Whippoorwill Pines Cabin, we jumped on it!
1. We absolutely love Broken Bow. If you’re looking for a place to disconnect, this is it.
2. The cabin is GORGEOUS.
Even though we were away this year for Christmas we kept up our family traditions of making homemade sugar cookies for Santa and wearing matching pajamas on Christmas Day. The whole week we stayed there was so magical!
The cabin is BRAND new and decorated flawlessly. It’s a 3 bedroom cabin PLUS a loft that sleep 4. Two things we look for when we stay in a cabin is that it has a hot tub and also a fire pit because we love to make s’mores! If you are interested in booking this cabin, send them a message on Instagram which is linked here.

Tulsa
A couple years ago, my husband and I started doing Christmas dates. We decided to spend more on a weekend date, that allowed us to have quality time together, each year as our Christmas gift to one another.
Last year we stayed in OKC, so we knew we wanted to go somewhere out of town this year, but nothing too far. Since we moved to Oklahoma 3 years ago, we haven’t been able to spend much time in Tulsa, so it was the perfect choice for us this year.
The first thing we did when we got to Tulsa was head to Utica Square for some shopping. I found a cute sweater at Anthropologie and we found my husband some great clothes from Gearhead. After shopping we ate lunch at Stonehorse where I had the quiche and my husband had the meatloaf-both which I highly recommend. Enjoy a glass of wine on the patio and soak in the crisp winter air.
Next stop was Poppis Urban Spa for facials and massages. We also had lounge access and were able to do chromotherapy, infrared sauna, and salt therapy. We left feeling relaxed, recharged, and de-stressed.
Across from Poppi’s is the Tulsa box yard-with some super cute new and upcoming shops. Definitely check it out if you are in the area and get your insta-worthy pic!
It was time to check into our hotel and get ready for dinner. We chose to stay at The Tulsa Club and I cannot recommend this place enough. We were placed in a corner suite, with champagne and chocolates waiting for us. The lobby was decorated beautifully for the holidays. We even used their car service to take us to dinner. We will definitely be back!
For dinner we had several people recommend The Bull in the Alley and it did not disappoint. We started the meal with their bacon (which they are known for) and oysters on the half shell. For the main course we chose the porter house which was the best steak I have ever had. We finished the meal with chocolate cake to celebrate life, love, and happiness.
The next morning we chose to eat brunch at Roosevelt’s before we headed back to OKC. I would recommend checking this out around Christmas time, as the decor is superb. If you head there for brunch, I recommend the honey butter chicken biscuit.
We had such a great weekend getaway and came home feeling recharged and in love. I cannot stress how important I think it is (even when you have little kids) to take the time to invest in your marriage and your relationship. We are better parents when our marriage is strong.
Dallas
My birthday is July 31st and both my husband and son share a birthday the next day. So two years ago we decided to forego big birthday parties and start creating family memories for our birthday weekend.
Last year we went to the Hilton Anatole in Dallas. We had such a great time we decided to go back again this year. We decided to spend 3 nights there this time, and that was the perfect length of time for a weekend getaway.
The first thing we did when we got into Dallas was scheduling a time slot at the Dallas Aquarium. This was probably my son’s favorite part of the trip. If you have never been to the Dallas Aquarium, I highly recommend you check it out. With the time slots there was more than aqdequate room from people and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit-especially the shark tunnel and the anaconda.
After the aquarium we headed to our favorite local Mexican restaurant- Desperados. If you go, get the Desperados Tacos with beef and a Mexican Martini.
The next day we spent the whole day poolside at Jade Waters, which is connected to the hotel. There are 2 big water slides, a lazy river, a toddler play area, and water basketball. Make sure to REAPPLY your sunscreen as you enjoy a whole day poolside. They have an outdoor restaurant where you can even order lunch.
That second evening was my birthday, and I chose to eat at Perry’s Steakhouse, as it never disappoints. We always get the pork chop, which is big enough to share between 2 people, just trust me. Some other things we love are the wedge salad, brussel sprouts, and the lobster mac and cheese. Make sure to save room for dessert, because their nutty d’angelo is my all time favorite (and I’m not a dessert person.)
The next day we spent more time at the pool and then had a low key dinner. It was so nice to get away, relax, and spend quality time together. It was just what we needed during these crazy times. I challenge you to take the time away from your phones, media, news, and relax and recharge with your family.
